I’ve recently started running a simple one hour Game Design Contests using the GameSalad game design SDK. Simply being run on the GameSalad forum.
No prizes just for fun and to keep the brain working and to free myself up for the developing of new ideas in what spare time I can find (i.e. lunch break or in the evening when the kids are a sleep).
By limiting the time to one hour (+ 30 minutes before to think of a game based on the given theme) it opens up one of the most enjoyable aspects of game developing. Without having to overly worry about game polish, art, marketing, sales, deadlines, cross platform support and just think up interesting game mechanics for the fun of it.
I’ll start posting little videos of my one hour games here.. I’m sure some might be expanded on in the future one day…
I also quite like the timelapse videos that I can create shrinking the one hour of developing into one minute.
