Solar Energy Animation for Abdul Latif Jameel Energy
Stormy Studio were commissioned to produce a 3 minute solar energy animation in 2020 for Abdul Latif Jameel Energy. Our studio has produced a good number of renewable energy animations over the years and is an subject we're always keen to explore creatively.
The animated video makes use of a minimal design aesthetic mixing 2D motion graphics and some elements of 3D design to explain the solar panel technology.
The solar energy animation strikes the right chord between accurate scientific information and an easily understood overview.
The colour pallette throughout ensures the videos reflects the clients brand effectively.
Animated Solar Energy Explainer:
The process of solar panel technology clearly explained as we initially built up a solar cell, using a mixture of 2D and 3D motion graphics.
The solar energy animation breaks down all the layers and materials used in a solar cell. Before building up a fuller solar array.
2D text is utilised throughout to ensure the key messaging is understood even if the video is watched without sound.
How was the video produced?
Our animation studio team created a full storyboard for rounds of review by all interested parties. The storyboard stills we produced directly in our goto animation software, Adobe After Effects. This approach benefitted the production by ensuring the stills made were very close to the final animated videos look and feel.
It allowed for quick iteration and for our animators to work out a viable way to build up a solar cell in 2D/3D layers. Plus multiply the solar cell out to form an array and eventually explain how the solar array is connected to the wider electricity grid.
We used Adobe Illustrator to design the 2D icons before being brought into the animation software. We created the whole project over three weeks, with regular updates from our studio team to our client.
Climate Change & Solar Energy Impact:
The animated solar energy video highlighted how the C02 levels can be impacted through the use of solar panels.
The final video, whilst relatively calm and simple explains the renewable subject matter very clearly.
