Stormy Studio were commissioned to produce a series of engaging Bristol animation for Bristol Energy. Through the use of a concise script and engaging visuals that tied in with the companies branding we were able to explain key messages to their current and potential future customers. The animated videos highlighted the companies positive stance on renewable energy, their latest smart meter and what they're doing to help tackle the climate emergency.
Bold colours and stylised design...
From the get go, we knew we had a great bold colour pallete to work with. The Bristol energy pinks and purples leant itself really well to developing a unique aesthetic and bring the Bristol animation, house and wider landscape to life. We then added layers of animated grain, and subtle paper textures to push the aesthetic a little further arriving at the final look.
Frame by frame animated characters.
Stormy Studio had two animators dedicated to working the production of stylish frame-by-frame hand drawn animated characters using TV paint.
The extra time invested in this (as opposed to a simpler 2D rigged character) ensured the animation had more life and fluidity.
This added another layer of polish to the Bristol animation.
"A series of quickly sketched Bristol animation environments were developed before starting digital design work."
A good amount of production time was spent creating the house interior. Mixing 3D space with 2D designed elements.
Once created and various animation controllers were setup. We were able to pan across and rotate 3D section of rooms to create a unique look, all timed to align with the professional Bristol accented voiceover.
This again helped raise the level of finish for the Bristol animation project, ensuring the energy brand was reflected professionally.
It also gave us a great setting to drop in the frame-by-frame animated characters. Building up a diorama with 2D characters placed into our pseudo 3D home and environment.
We produced 3 videos in the Bristol animation series... here are the other two...
Bristol Animation - Climate Emergency
Bristol Animation - Solar & Storage
Motion Graphics... Great Graphs!
At Stormy Studio our team are passionate about motion graphics. So even though a graph may not always be something to get too creatively excited about... in this instance we were able to achieve a lot... and our client was particulalry pleased with the results.
When looking to explain the subject of solar energy generation and storage. The animated graph came into its own. With a simple design were able to clearly explain the complexities of electricity consumption, storage and solar production over a 24hr window.
Solar Energy Explainer
Revisiting our 3D house exterior, and stylised landscape, we were able to quickly and clearly explain the basics of solar energy to tie in with the voiceover script.
Over recent years Stormy Studio have produced a wide number of videos on renewable energy, including this 3D animated explainer series for Western Power.
Smart Meter Design
We created a stylised 2D version of Bristol Energy's smart meter. This sat alongside our other 2D motion graphics visuals well, whilst still standing out to grab the attention of the viewers.
It served as both a way to highlight the companies product offering, as well as tie in with key messages on energy and cost savings.
Stormy Studio were really driven by the positive messaging being carried through this Bristol animation video. Which we feel is evident from the care and attention put in across the series of videos.
